Bamboo Plants

Bamboo plants are an excellent choice for a large, fast growing screening plant, hedging plant or exotic plant to feature in your garden. The stems provide year-round colour depending on the type of bamboo. Black Bamboo, has creamy yellow stems in the first year which develop to black after maturity. Green Bamboo has green stems, while the Golden Bamboo has fresh golden-yellow stems.

Bamboo can be invasive so it is best planted in an area where it has room to spread. However typically the Black and Green varieties are more vigorous. The growth rate of bamboo plants can be between 60-90cm per year. However most bamboos will put on a lot of growth in the first year and then consequently branch out and spread more in following years. Bamboo plants can be contained within a physical barrier to prevent them spreading through beds and borders, this involves digging a trench and lining the planting hole with an impermeable material such as a layer of Landscape fabrics.
